MONTHLY UPDATE FOR AUGUST 2OO9

Prepared by: Herman Bukenya

Date: July 31st, 2009

1. Education support

Children are ready for the 3rd school term: The school holiday has come to an end. The children were supposed to be on holiday for three weeks and return on August 3rd, but the Government postponed the beginning of the term to the 10th of August. We have been able to purchase and distribute all the boarding school requirements during our last Saturday meeting as the children get ready to start school on Monday, August10th.

2. Sponsorship

Children have written to their sponsors: The sponsored children have been writing to their sponsors. We are also completing the progress reports for this term. We had some children draw pictures too. The CDWs worked with the children to have the letters written as well as having the progress reports completed.  The children continue to learn some English, and we encouraged them to write whatever they can in English. We hope the sponsors will be able to understand what the children say in the letters… Children who can’t write any English continued to write in Kinyarwanda.

3. Children’s health:

We gave out food items to children who are infected with HIV. Children from poor families were also provided with food this month. The food give-away has been a great blessing to all of the beneficiaries. Aline Musigwayire’s mother, who is also HIV+ had stopped taking her ARV drugs due to food shortages. But as a result of the food that we give to her family every month, she has been able to get the medication again. Two of her children are HIV+ as well.

Payer request for August 2009: The school children begin their 3rd school term on Monday, August 10th. We would like to pray for them so that they are able to get promoted to the next classes. Children hate repeating classes.

Plans for August 2009:

  • Ensure that all children are back in school for their 3rd term
  • Mail correspondences from children to sponsors
  • Pay fees for children in secondary school.
